From the Principal

It is with great pleasure and a sense of excitement that I extend a warm welcome to all our students, parents, caregivers, and staff as we embark on the final term of this year. Term 4 is always an exciting time at our school, filled with opportunities for growth, celebration, and reflection.

As we enter this term, we find ourselves in a unique position. We have witnessed the resilience, rigour, servant-hearts and determination of our students, parents and staff throughout the year. The positive and supportive culture of our school community is a true blessing.

In the weeks ahead, we have a calendar filled with events and activities and I encourage you to mark these in your calendar.

Staffing:

This week we welcomed Rob McClean to our St John’s staffing team. Rob is our Facilities Officer and will working with us on the grounds, supporting with morning activity routines and assisting with special projects on and around the inside and outside spaces of our school campus.

Morning Movement:

We have had positive feedback regarding our morning activities from students, staff and parents. I thanked the students on Friday assembly for the level of responsibility they have shown during the morning movement times. We will continue to reflect and add in this space during Term 4.

Blouse and Skorts:

These uniform options have been approved and are headed for production – how exciting!

Uniform Shop:

We have made the decision to move to an external provider for the Uniform Shop. In the short-term, this provider will be working onsite from our current shop location with a view to source an offsite location in the future. This change will allow parents to have additional purchasing options online, as well as additional uniform shop opening hours during the school term.

In preparation for this changeover, the uniform shop will be closed from Thursday 5 October – Wednesday 11 October.

New Hours (from 12 October):

– Tuesday 8.00am – 10.00am

– Thursday 2.00pm – 4.00pm

Thank you for your support and understanding in this space.

The Non-State Schools Transport Assistance Scheme (NSSTAS)

Each semester parents/carers have the opportunity to apply for assistance for student transport costs to and from school through this Scheme. Applications are available online during the month of May for Semester One and October for Semester Two.

Application link: SchoolTransport.com.au

In closing, I want to encourage every member of our St John’s community to make the most of Term 4. Let us approach each opportunity with open minds and open hearts, embrace opportunities with enthusiasm, and celebrate the successes and growth with humility and pride. Together, we will make this term a memorable one, filled with learning and achievements, kindness and consideration towards one another, both within our school community and beyond.

I continue to pray for blessings over every member of our school community as we move towards the end of the school year- wishing you all a fantastic and fulfilling Term 4!

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13

Blessings

Curriculum Connections – Year 1

During Term 3, Year 1 students learnt about natural, managed and constructed features of places in their Human Centred Design unit. They took on the role of project manager to survey, design and create a model of a fun play space that could be built within the school. To share their ideas with others, students created models of their play space.

Curriculum Connections – Year 2

Year 2 built musical instruments as a part of their Science inquiry unit during Term 3. Students combined their knowledge of how vibrations make sound, different materials and their Visual Art learning to make decorated instruments. The instruments were then used in specialist Music lessons.

LOOSE CHANGE CHALLENGE

A sincere and heart-felt thank you to our amazing school community. As a school community, we managed to raise over $1200 to support the Duggan Family in our SSRC’s Loose Change Challenge. Thank you to all those who were able to contribute their loose change to such an important cause. Congratulations also to Year 5 who will be joining Mrs Bakker for a pizza party lunch celebration.

COMMUNITY SUNDAY – Sunday 22 October

We invite you and your family to join with us for our Community Sunday Worship Service with the St John’s Lutheran Church congregation on Sunday 22 October 2023 commencing at 9.00 am. There will be a shared morning tea and some games following the service. Please bring along a plate to share, and join us under the mango tree for some fun and games. Students from Year 1, Year 4 and Year 4/5 will be directly involved in the service, and we encourage students and families to attend this school event. Students from other year levels are also very welcome to actively take part in the Worship Service. Please return participation forms as soon as possible so that roles for the service can be allocated.

SSRC CROCHETED BLANKET

SSRC students will be joined by Mrs MacDougal, one of our wonderful grandmothers to continue to work with our SSRC students in piecing together our blanket in readiness to donate to Angel’s Community Group for their Community Room. Angels are excited about this contribution in support of the many folk who rely upon the Community Room for essential services. Thank you to the many wider school community representatives who have volunteered their time in crocheting squares.

LUNCHTIME CO-CURRICULAR CLUBS

Year 6 students are excited at the prospect of facilitating Term 4 Lunchtime Co-curricular activities across four broad areas – Sporting, Cultural, Academic and Service. Term 4 will see many opportunities for our St John’s students including; Kindness Club, Photography Club, Coding Club, Cricket Club, Dance Club, Hall Games and more. Co-curricular clubs commence in Week 2 of the term.

IN HIS ARMS

We often endure many difficult and challenging times, in our walk on this earth, day by day, week by week, year by year. As a Christian family with faith in Jesus, allow Him to wrap his loving arms around you, in doing so, we encourage you to continue to pray, show love, kindness and grace. Continue to lean on one another, offer strength and support, and be there for one another this day and all of your days. Please continue to reach out if we can be of any further support to you or your family.
